The track list is a tapestry of underground electronic music with undertones of ottoman glory, loungy dissident house clubs and Eurasian romance.
Nocturnal bedroom DJ DIGITÜRKISHÜZÜN pays tribute to a nostalgic sense of Melancholia:
-The Melancholy of Istanbul is called Hüzün, a Turkish word with Arabic roots (it appears five times in the Quran). For the Sufis - Hüzün - is the spiritual anguish one feels at not being close enough to God. Hüzün is the prevailing mood that binds the people of Istanbul, melancholia as a spiritual state, a glue, for people of Istanbul now living in the seat of a ruined crossroads, struggling to be modern, yet to still retain the dignity of their past.
Digiturk is a Turkish satellite television provider. In addition to Turkey, they offer service throughout Europe, mainly for members of the Turkish diaspora.
The two words makes out the name of this project- in order to emphasize the symbiosis of modernity with melancholia and longing for the past. The ruins are reminders that the present stressed big city is so poor and confused that it can never again dream of rising to it's former heights of wealth, power and culture.
